Miniature Figure & Model Railroad Life Size Scale Calculator

There are no precise standards or scales for most gaming figure heights measured in mm, and constant debate as to whether height is measured to the top of the head, hat, or eyes as well as what the average height is for the common foot soldier vs. the fantasy hero type. I included a variety of common gaming figure heights. Select the desired Figure Size in mm from the drop down menu. In the Life Size Feet box, type the desired height in feet of the figure, length of weapon or other measurement  and click Convert for fairly accurate dimensions in millimeters. For figures, I assumed 6 feet to the top of the head for size measurement and calculated the ratio accordingly. I set the default to my preferred 1/60 scale for gaming figures, which measures about 5mm per foot, and is fairly close to 28mm to eye level.

Model RR Scale measurements can be made by selecting the scale from the drop down menu, then entering the desired length in feet in the Life Size Feet box and clicking on Convert. The actual scale fraction will then show in the scale fraction box. If the desired scale is not listed, choose Other, and enter the scale fraction of your choice directly in the scale fraction box. If the size scale is 1:50, you should enter the 50 in the box. To do any additional calculations, click on Clear Values prior to entering any new values.

I did not create the calculator code, I just adapted it for gaming figure use. There are various versions of this calculator floating around the web, I believe the original is at CSGNetwork.com- they have  a lot of great calculators, scripts, code, and apps, and are well worth checking out.

For gaming figures, the formula for the ratio is 304.8 (mm per foot) multiplied by the assumed height in feet divided by the figure scale height in mm. For example, if we have a figure we assume is 6 feet to the top of the head at 54mm we have 6x304.8=1,828.8 divided by 54=33.86, rounded to 34, the ratio is 1/34. I assume 6 feet to the top of the head for size measurement and calculated the ratio accordingly. Feel free to copy the code and customize it for your particular needs.
